top is my first crack at digital painting (at least rendering to a decent level). Its not done but I am I don't know how you do it Jacob...

Nice first painting man... If you turn it to gray scale the values are really close together and it flattens it out... Most find it helps to do a grey scale painting before the color is laid ontop. Give that a try.
Try to think of it as a regular painting instead of a digital painting. Do the same stuff you do in your normal paintings. It takes some getting used to but you will figure out how to translate it. Keep it up!
